Music & Lyrics by Cole Porter Book by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay & Russell Crouse Directed by Jim Kimbrough
The S.S. American, bound for London. Billy Crocker has just stowed away to chase a girl he met in a taxi — a girl who happens to be engaged to a British lord. Helping him win her: Reno Sweeney, a nightclub singer with a brass section for a voice, and Moonface Martin, Public Enemy Number Thirteen, who's a little insulted he didn't rank higher. Mistaken identities pile up. Disguises get ridiculous. And Cole Porter's score — "I Get a Kick Out of You," "You're the Top," "It's De-Lovely" — keeps the whole thing sailing. The 1930s at their most champagne-drunk and irresistible.
