Coal Creek Community Theater presents

The 4th Annual Front Range Playwrights Showcase

Original Works by Linda Berry, William C. Kovacsik, Jeffrey Neuman & Carrie Printz
Directed by Lynn Fleming, Russell Orr, Dan Schock & Rachel Cohen-Birzer

This is where new Colorado theater begins—raw, unfinished, and full of possibility. Local playwrights bring brand new work to the stage for the first time. Actors and directors workshop the scripts in real time. Audiences witness theater in progress and help shape what comes next. Stories being born, right here in front of you.

The Front Range Playwrights Showcase

Since 2007, Coal Creek Theater has supported Colorado playwrights through the Front Range Playwrights Showcase. Here, we provide opportunities to workshop, develop, and stage new work.

A modern couple attends a staging of the ancient Greek story of Philomela's rape and mutilation by her brother-in-law, Tereus, and the subsequent sacrifice by Procne (Philomela's sister and Tereus' wife) of her son by Tereus. Parallels are drawn between the ancient story and modern situations in which men and women look for ways to exert power over others.

The play assumes that the incident happened as reported, and imagines what the two men might have had ot say to one another

A tense visitation occurs in an assisted living facility as an old man, imprisoned by aphasia, lies confined to a hospital bed.
