Coal Creek Theater of Louisville presents

This Random World

by Steven Dietz
Directed by Kirsten Jorgensen Smith

Scottie Ward is dying and wants one last adventure. Her daughter Beth is desperate for escape—any escape—before life passes her by completely. Her son Tim can't stop making the wrong choice at exactly the wrong moment. Tim's ex-girlfriend Claire is trying to learn how to be "present." Claire's ex-boyfriend Gary is running from everything. And two sisters named Rhonda and Bernadette keep almost crossing paths with all of them. We like to believe the universe brings people together for a reason—but what if connection is just luck, and we're missing each other by inches every single day? Warm, wry, and quietly heartbreaking.

Run Time – 90 minutes with no intermission

Cast and Creative Team

  • Kat is thrilled to be a part of her first production with CCTL! From the day she saw her first play at age seven (a high school production of Annie, to which she insisted on wearing her very best dress), Kat has been hooked on theater. She has participated in productions including Once Upon a Mattress and Lost in Yonkers. A passionate writer and a graduate of Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Kat worked on sitcoms in Los Angeles before moving to Colorado in 2019. She has co-written two episodes of A.N.T. Farm, was a semi-finalist in the Austin Film Festival television writing competition, and a two-time winner of Hartford Stage's Write On! competition for young playwrights. She dedicates this show to her aunt, an inspiring community theater veteran for more than three decades, and her mom, Kat's theater going buddy for life.

  • Sarah is grateful to work with such a fine cast and crew again for CCTL. She has assisted with lights, sound, and the set for Incorruptible. She then was stage managing for An Evening of Colorado-Grown One-Acts, assistant director/stage manager for Blessed Assurance, assisted with the set design for The Importance of Being Earnest, and stage managing for The Savannah Sipping Society. "Thank you for attending today's performance and I hope you enjoy the show".

  • H. L. has been involved with CCTL for many years now. He has designed sets, composed music, and he serves on the Board of Directors. "I would like to thank Kirsten, Sarah and Pam for their efforts in this show."

  • This is Shane's second live show with Coal Creek Theater. He also worked on CCTL's recent virtual productions. Shane has worked on many shows in the past, including three seasons with the Southern Colorado Repertory Theater Company.

  • Steve is CCTL's Artistic Director. He is also a Louie Award-winning sound designer, having won the Best Sound Design award for seven of the last ten years. He's also a Louie Award-winning actor (most recently for Outside Mullingar and Incorruptible). Steve is thrilled to be part of CCTL's return to live theater. Thanks to Kirsten for the opportunity and for the unwavering support of his family, including his wife Kathleen, who designed the costumes for this show.

  • After a successful run as Lewis in the Coal Creek Theater Production of Blessed Assurance in 2019, Byron is excited to be involved once again with live theater. In 2012, Byron made his stage debut with Longmont Theatre Company as the insufferable Sheridan Whiteside in The Man Who Came To Dinner. In 2014 he was honored to play the iconic role of Hoke Coleburn in Driving Miss Daisy for which he received the 2014 TARA. Recently he played the mysterious Palmer in Yankee Tavern and the ghost of Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol. Byron continues to be inspired by his daughter Hannah, his son Ethan (Semper Fi), and his beautiful wife Cindy.

  • Kathleen has costumed many shows at CCTL. Favorites have been Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, And Then There Were None, Dancing at Lughnasa, and The Importance of Being Earnest for which she won Best Costume Design. She also won a Costume Design Award at the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition Festival for Working. Kathy would like to thank the cast and crew for their dedication and cooperation. She hopes you enjoy our show and thanks you for your support!
