Coal Creek Theater of Louisville presents

The Dixie Swim Club

by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope & Jamie Wooten
Directed by Nita Froelich

Five Southern women who met on their college swim team have kept a tradition going for decades:one weekend every August at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks. No husbands. No kids. No jobs. Just catching up, meddling in each other's lives, and laughing until it hurts. Spanning thirty-three years and four weekends, this comedy follows them through marriages, divorces, career triumphs, and the curveballs life throws — including one that proves just how deep their teamwork really goes. Funny, warm, and unexpectedly moving.

Run Time – 2 hours with one 15-minute intermission

Cast and Creative Team

  • This is Sue's first production with CCTL and is pleased to work with such a talented cast and Crew. She especially wants to thank Nita for allowing her to be a part of this production. For more than a decade she has performed, stage managed, co-directed and produced productions in Lafayette, Longmont and Arvada. She has also served on the board at TCL and Arvada Center Chorale.

  • Jim has acted in five shows with CCTL, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Brighton Beach Memoirs, The Nerd, Close Ties and The Fantasticks. Last Fall he assisted as stage manager for Bodice Ripper and is back for more with Dixie Swim Club. Jim has done numerous plays over the years, including playing Felix in The Odd Couple and Norman in Star Spangled Girl, along with a number of musicals including Anything Goes, Mame, Irene, High Button Shoes, Once Upon A Mattress, Oklahoma!, Fiddler on the Roof, and Hello Dolly. In high school, Jim received a summer scholarship to study theater and film at the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts at Bucknell University. By day Jim works as a Director of Business Planning at Oracle in Broomfield. Jim's hobbies include writing, reading, hiking, biking, skiing and cooking for friends.

  • Kyle is a board member of CCTL and serves as technical director, designing and building sets for various productions.

  • Brian is thrilled to be back working on a Coal Creek show after an extended absence. Previously here, he designed the lighting for Voice of the Prairie and A Tuna Christmas (also directed by Nita) in the 2009 season. Elsewhere, he recently designed the lighting for Starline Productions' world premiere of L.A. Diner at the Dairy Center, lighting for Theater Company of Lafayette's William Shakespeare: Land of the Dead, scenery for The Catamounts' highly acclaimed production of There Is A Happiness That Morning Is at the Dairy Center, and lighting for Openstage's Dangerous Liasons at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins. Last year, he won Broadway World/Denver's award for "Best Lighting Design for a Play" for Openstage's production of Amadeus. He also serves as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for Theater Company of Lafayette.

  • Jackie has acted, directed and costumed shows in the past and is glad to be back with all her theater friends. Thanks, Nita for thinking of me to costume these lovely ladies.

  • Erica is pleased to be working with this great cast and alongside her talented mother, Nita. She last dipped her toes in the theatrical world when she did props for A Tuna Christmas for CCTL, for which she won a Louie Award. Being raised in a theatrical family, Erica can't help but seek the spotlight and makes her living as a speaker, trainer, and writer. Since last October, she has been feeding her nomadic spirit by traveling around the U.S., visiting far-flung friends, and bicycling every chance she gets.

  • Steve got his start in community theater some 30 years ago in sound design, although most CCTL patrons will probably be more familiar with his on-stage work. He appeared as Bill in The Women of Lockerbie this season. His work for Proof and Bodice Ripper have won Louie Awards for Best Sound Design, and he has also been known to dabble in lighting design (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Shop of Horrors). Steve enjoyed discovering the Carolina Beach Music genre while researching this show, and hopes you will enjoy it too.

  • Samantha has been in theatre since elementary school. She has dabbled in just about everything that has to deal with theatre backstage more so than on. Her highlights have to be Fahrenheit 451, A Little Night Music, and The Women of Lockerbie. Her backstage experience has varied from being a stage manger to pulling the curtain. She is currently going to school as a theatre major. She wishes to one day be working at DCPA, then head her way to New York to work on Broadway.

Reviews and Testimonials

I just wanted you to know that **the four of us had the time of our lives!** Even our husbands were laughing out loud. **My girlfriend told me she was working hard not to laugh as loud as she wanted to** – and I told her to let ‘r rip and laugh as loud and hard as she wanted. And trust me – we both did. Couldn’t really help ourselves. **The ladies were absolutely fantastic.** You just felt you KNEW them all.
