Harry Witherspoon is a mild-mannered English shoe salesman who's just inherited six million dollars from an uncle he never met. The catch: he has to take the body to Monte Carlo. Prop it in a wheelchair. Pretend it's alive. If he slips up, the money goes to a Brooklyn dog shelter — whose very determined representative is watching his every move. Add a jilted mob wife, her trigger-happy brother, and a suitcase full of diamonds, and you've got the first musical from the team that would later write Ragtime. A screwball farce with a killer score and a corpse who steals every scene he's in.
