Bookby Michael Stewart Music by Charles Strouse Lyrics by Lee Adams Directed by Jim Kimbrough
It's 1958, and rock-and-roll heartthrob Conrad Birdie just got drafted. His agent Albert has one shot to save the business: get Birdie on The Ed Sullivan Show to sing one last song and plant one last kiss on a lucky fan before he ships out. The lucky fan is Kim MacAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio, and her boyfriend is not thrilled. Neither is her father. Neither is Albert's mother, who's been trying to break up his engagement for years. Small-town chaos, big musical numbers, and the best kind of fifties fun.
