Coal Creek Theater of Louisville presents

The Runner Stumbles

by Milan Stitt
Directed by Dan Schock

A priest sits in a jail cell in rural Michigan, accused of murdering the young nun who served at his parish. As Father Rivard awaits trial, the play moves between courtroom testimony and flashbacks that reveal the truth: two people bound by sacred vows, awakening to a forbidden love neither could suppress. Based on an actual 1911 case, Stitt's gripping drama ran nearly 400 performances on Broadway, weaving murder mystery, courtroom tension, and theological questioning into one devastating whole. The shocking climax will leave you wrestling with questions of faith, duty, and sacrifice long after the verdict.

Run Time – 2 hours & 20 minutes with one 15-minute intermission

Cast and Creative Team

  • This is Shane's first show with Coal Creek Theater. Shane has worked on many shows in the past including three seasons with the Southern Colorado Repertory Theater Company.

  • H. L. has written and performed music for many shows. He has enjoyed designing and building several sets here at CCTL, including Escanaba in the Moonlight, Enchanted April, Becky Shaw, Incorruptible, Blessed Assurance, and most recently, The Importance of Being Earnest. Also, he has almost appeared in several shows as "Wolf Man Lester." H.L. would like to thank Dan for another great show and special thanks to Kirsten for helping with the vocal parts on “The Lilac Song.”

  • Kirsten is very happy to be working with Dan on this production. She has been involved with CCTL for several years and now serves on the Executive Board of Directors. She will be directing Dracula for CCTL this fall. (Auditions in August!) She would like to thank Howard, Dan and Sarah for their support. She would also like to thank Pam and you, the audience, for inspiring her to be creative.

  • Kathy has costumed many shows at CCTL. Favorites have been Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, And Then There Were None, Over the River and Through the Woods, last season's Blessed Assurance and The Importance of Being Earnest, for which she won best costume design. She hopes you enjoy this thought- provoking drama and is grateful for your patronage.

  • Peg is very pleased to be propping another fine production for Dan Schock and Coal Creek Theater company. Other productions she has worked on for CCTL include Dancing At Lughnasa, And Then There Were None, and Incorruptible. Peg also props shows for Longmont Theater Company and the Theatre Company of Lafayette. She would like to thank "Sue Peterson for her help and for always having my back, and my husband Roger for being my prop gopher."
