Providence, Rhode Island. Every other Friday, eight sisters meet to play bridge. They gossip. They bicker. They keep each other's secrets, and sometimes spill them. The first act is 1934. The second is ten years later, a Halloween party where each sister dresses as who she wishes she could be. Between the cards and the costumes, the small betrayals and the fierce loyalties, a decade of marriage, motherhood, and quiet heartbreak plays out around the table.
