Absurd Person Singular

by Alan Ayckbourn
Directed by Madge Montgomery

Three couples. Three kitchens. Three successive Christmas Eves. Ambitious tradesman Sidney Hopcroft and his obsessively tidy wife host a party to impress their social betters — a snobbish banker and a philandering architect. But as the years pass, fortunes reverse: the Hopcrofts rise while the others spiral into alcoholism, depression, and desperation. Ayckbourn's landmark 1972 comedy is wickedly funny and quietly savage, a tragicomic masterpiece about class, marriage, and what happens when the people you once looked down on end up looking down on you.

Run Time – 2 hours & 15 minutes with two 10-minute intermissions

Cast and Creative Team

  • Munam recently served as the Stage Manager for TCL's The Dali Follies and was the former Artistic Director at Theater Movement in Washington, D.C. and at Sandiwa (Of one Spirit) Theater Company where she was also an actor and acting coach. Munam says, "I am very honored to work with Madge Montgomery and this ensemble. Thank you very much, TCL, for welcoming me into your world; it has been so much fun being surrounded by your energy and warmth. My DC theater friends are lurking in Facebook to see my next posting about this production and emailing, 'When are you moving back?' Nope! Ladies and gentlemen of legal age, good evening and welcome to our kitchens and have a bitter lemon or two."

  • Susanne is delighted to be a part of the collaboration of two of her favorite theater companies. It has been a pleasure working with an outstanding and talented cast. Thank you the audience for supporting live theater. Sit back relax and enjoy and excellent play.

  • Chris holds a B.A. in Theatre/Fine Arts from the University of Northern Colorado, and has been the Head Set Designer for Theatre Company of Lafayette for 9 years. She is pleased to return to CCTL, where she has won 7 Louie Awards for "Best Design/Decorations" in years past. Two of her favorites include All My Sons and On Borrowed Time. She owes the success of creating this "convertible set" to her talented construction/painting/prop crew: Thanks, Chuck, Sarah, and Angie!

  • Chuck has been the technical director and scenic designer at Northglenn High School for the past 28 years. He has lent his hand at CCTL for the past 13 years, including designing and painting the sets for Steel Magnolias, On Golden Pond, and The 39 Steps among others. He also served as the prop master for Candlelight Dinner Theater for 24 shows. In all, Chuck has worked on over 100 productions, "bringing the art of science to the science of art."

  • Kim is pleased to have the chance to work with Coal Creek Theater of Louisville, in collaboration with the Theater Company of Lafayette. Kim's costume design work has been seen the past two years in works such as Theater Company of Lafayette's production of Victor/Victoria, Taste of Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well, and Longmont Theater Company's I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. Working with the creative and talented groups of players in Northern Colorado is a dream come true! Thanks so very much to Ed and to Baxter for his furry friendship.

  • Brian previously lit the CCTL productions of Dixie Swim Club and Voice of the Prairie. He was nominated this past year for a Henry Award for his lighting design for Outside Mullingar at OpenStage in Fort Collins, and he participated in Theater Esprit Asia's production of Coming to America at the Colorado Community Theater Coalition festival, which won several awards, including First Prize. He proudly serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for TCL.
